The coating composition is based on the organic resin binders that are acrylate epoxy or rubber.

The reactive layer

The thickness of the film is measured with the help of wet filming gauge as some thickness of the wet film would dry to the particular dry film. Some coatings might be required for building up to today dry coating thickness.

Ingredients of resins
The resins comprise of active ingredients which react in the fire at the temperature of 250 degree Celsius for forming thermally insulated carbonaceous foam or char. The char might swell up to 50 times original coat thickness.
As mentioned above, the basic formula of passive fire protection intumescent includes organic binder.
As temperature increases, the binder starts melting and the blowing agents liberate the gases which causes controlled expansion. Also, there is a degradation of carbon backbone as well as a fusion of inorganic reinforcing material which results in the solidification of char.
